Elite SMC/GRP Composite Manhole Covers are developed for municipal access points where a balance of structural performance, manageable weight and long-term environmental resistance is required.
Manufactured from fiber-reinforced SMC/BMC composite compounds through compression molding, the covers provide a practical alternative to conventional metallic access covers for roads, drainage networks and underground utility systems.
The composite body does not rely on exposed ferrous metal, helping eliminate common problems associated with rusting and reducing the incentive for scrap-metal theft. The molded surface can also be configured with anti-slip patterns, identification markings and other project-specific details.
| Specification | Dimension |
|---|---|
| Clear Opening | 600 mm |
| Cover Diameter / Size | 650 mm |
| Frame Size | 790 mm |
Other dimensions and configurations can be developed for municipal and infrastructure projects according to the required chamber opening and installation conditions.
The combination of resin and reinforcing materials forms a rigid composite body after compression molding. This provides the structural stability required for repeated service while avoiding the weight associated with many traditional cast-metal covers.
Different cover configurations can be developed for pedestrian areas, parking zones, service roads and locations exposed to heavier vehicle traffic.
The appropriate load class should be selected according to the actual installation environment, traffic conditions and applicable EN 124 requirements.
The composite material is not susceptible to conventional iron rust. This makes the cover suitable for drainage systems, wastewater infrastructure, humid environments and outdoor utility networks where prolonged moisture exposure is expected.
Unlike cast-iron products, composite covers generally have little or no scrap-metal resale value. Their non-metallic construction can therefore help reduce the risk of theft associated with recoverable metal components.
An embossed or textured surface can be incorporated to improve traction for vehicles and pedestrians. The molded structure also allows different surface patterns to be produced without relying on additional coatings.
The comparatively low weight of composite covers can simplify positioning, installation and future removal during inspection or utility maintenance.
The cover and frame can be configured for a close fit, helping reduce rattling and impact noise under normal traffic conditions.
The 600 mm clear-opening configuration is suitable for a wide range of municipal utility chambers. Standard specifications can be supplied for repeat orders and distributor programs.
Elite can manufacture non-standard cover and frame dimensions for projects where the existing chamber does not match the standard configuration.
Different colors can be considered for product identification, municipal requirements or customer branding.
Customer logos, utility identification, project information, load-class markings and other molded or surface markings can be incorporated according to the product design.
Optional sealing arrangements and locking systems are available for applications requiring improved closure, controlled access or additional protection against unauthorized opening.
Samples can be supplied for dimensional inspection, installation trials, surface evaluation and customer approval before larger production quantities.
OEM and ODM cooperation is available for distributors, contractors, municipal suppliers and infrastructure projects requiring dedicated product configurations.
Suitable for access points located in urban roads, residential streets, service roads and other municipal traffic areas.
Can be used for stormwater, drainage and wastewater access chambers where resistance to moisture and corrosion is required.
Applicable to underground water infrastructure, valve chambers, inspection points and utility access structures.
Suitable for communication and cable chambers where a non-metallic cover can provide both physical protection and reduced theft exposure.
Can be used for underground electrical service chambers and utility access points where composite construction is compatible with the project requirements.
Applicable to underground utility networks within residential communities, commercial developments, public facilities and mixed-use projects.
Suitable for inspection chambers and utility access points within factories, industrial parks and other managed facilities.
SMC/BMC material is formed under controlled molding conditions to produce the required cover geometry and structural configuration.
Finished products are checked against approved drawings or specifications to ensure consistency of the cover and frame dimensions.
The molded surface, edges, markings and overall appearance are inspected before packing.
Where required, load testing can be conducted according to the specified load class and applicable testing procedure.
Finished goods are inspected before dispatch to verify quantity, model, appearance, packaging and other agreed requirements.
Third-party testing and certification can be arranged where required by a particular project or market.
Elite has specialized in composite molded products for infrastructure applications for more than two decades.
Our production experience covers SMC/GRP composite manhole covers and other molded infrastructure components. The manufacturing system supports both repeat production of standard models and development of customized products.
For overseas orders, we can support the complete supply process from:
Technical confirmation → Sample approval → Production → Quality inspection → Export packing → Shipment
This allows contractors, distributors and infrastructure suppliers to source customized composite access covers from one manufacturing partner.
When selecting a manhole cover, the initial purchase price is only one part of the decision. The operating environment, installation weight, corrosion exposure, theft risk and expected maintenance should also be considered.
| Factor | SMC/GRP Composite | Cast Iron |
| Material | Fiber-reinforced composite | Ferrous metal |
| Corrosion | Does not rust like iron | Requires consideration of corrosion |
| Handling | Lower weight | Generally heavier |
| Scrap Value | Very low | Relatively high |
| Electrical Property | Non-conductive | Conductive |
| Surface Design | Molded patterns available | Cast / coated surface |
| Maintenance | Low corrosion-related maintenance | May require corrosion protection |
| Customization | Flexible molding options | Tooling and casting dependent |
| Application | Municipal & utility infrastructure | Broad infrastructure use |
The best material depends on the required load, installation conditions, local standards and project budget.
To select the correct municipal manhole cover, buyers should confirm:

For replacement projects, sending a drawing, existing cover photograph or physical dimensions can help our team identify the closest standard model or determine whether a customized design is required.
The product is manufactured from fiber-reinforced SMC/BMC composite material using a compression molding process.
The standard configuration presented on this page has a 600 mm clear opening, with a 650 mm cover size and 790 mm frame size.
Yes, provided that the selected load class corresponds to the actual traffic and installation conditions.
The composite material itself does not undergo the conventional rusting process associated with exposed iron or steel.
Its non-metallic construction gives it little scrap-metal value compared with cast-iron covers, which can help reduce theft risk.
Yes. Product marking and logo customization can be incorporated depending on the design, marking method and order quantity.
Yes. Customized cover and frame dimensions can be developed according to the chamber opening and project drawing.
Yes. Locking configurations can be considered for projects requiring restricted access.
Relevant product testing and quality documentation can be supplied according to the selected model and project requirements. Third-party testing can also be discussed where required.
Please provide the required opening size, load class, quantity, application, destination and any available drawing. For replacement products, photographs and dimensions of the existing cover are also useful.
For municipal infrastructure, a manhole cover needs to balance load performance, handling, environmental resistance and long-term operating cost rather than focusing on weight or material alone.
Elite SMC/GRP composite covers provide a non-metallic option for roads, drainage systems, water utilities, telecommunications and underground service networks.
With standard 600 mm opening configurations as well as OEM development capability, Elite can support both routine replacement requirements and larger infrastructure programs.
Send us your required opening size, load class and quantity. We can recommend the appropriate model and provide a project-specific quotation.
